Stay Awake: The Video Game Movie Marathon
So here's the deal: we're going to go above and beyond our normal Jerking to try and raise a little money for Child's Play. How exactly we go about it and how much we raise depends mostly (entirely) on you. Since there's a lot of ground to cover, we're going to go ahead and break things down bullet-point style, because that's just how we roll.
-What is Child's Play?
-What exactly are you guys doing?
-This sounds an awful lot like Desert Bus for Hope or the Mario Marathon
-How long is this thing going to last?
-Wouldn't it be easier to donate directly to Child's Play? How do we know you won't just spend the money on bad movies and beer?
-Can I suggest a movie?
Child's Play is a charity started by the guys over at Penny Arcade. Basically, they raise money to buy kids stuck in hospitals across the country video games. While it might sound frivolous, these are kids who spend days, weeks, months, and sometimes years at a time in a hospital bed, and anything they can do to escape that, even just in their minds, is totally worthwhile. Starting Friday, November 6th, we will sit down in the Jerks recording booth. Brett will have his webcam set up so you can follow the action as it happens, we'll have a chat room so you can talk to us without interrupting commentary, and we'll be recording the whole shebang movie-by-movie to go up on the site later. We will be watching every bad video game movie we can think of, and a few that actually weren't that bad.
Right now our plan is to watch every movie we have picked out in a row, with minimal breaks inbetween. With the movies we have on hand right now, that's over 32 hours straight. Depending on how much money we raise beforehand, and how much of an audience we have during the marathon, we may end up starting over from the beginning. If you want us to go longer, start donating.
That's because it is. We had the idea to do this after Desert Bus pulled it off a second year in a row. Once we started getting serious about it, we found out about the Mario Marathon and realized that we may actually be able to pull it off and raise some money. Again, that part is totally up to you.
That's the great thing about ChipIn. We don't actually touch any of the money, the transactions all go directly to Child's Play. ChipIn just keeps track of things for us so that we can tell how much we've helped raise. If you DO want to donate to us, though, we should have a donation button up soon. But for now, we'd honestly rather you donate to Child's Play.
If you make a suggestion in enough time that we can get a copy, sure. We're focusing on video game movies, but if you REALLY want us to do something of a different genre, a decent-sized donation would probably do the trick. Though it would still have to be something we either have, you've sent us, or we can send someone to get.

-So where can we see how much money you've raised until you get a widget working?

-What movies will you be doing commentary for during the marathon?
We'll be updating this list as we actually get the DVDs in our hands, but here's the list so far:
Confirmed: Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, Stay Alive, Silent Hill, Dungeons & Dragons, Doom, House of the Dead, House of the Dead 2, Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider 2, Bloodrayne, Bloodrayne 2, Max Payne, Alone in the Dark, Street Fighter, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, Hitman, Resident Evil (trilogy), Brainscan.
Planned: Super Mario Brothers, Dead Or Alive, Double Dragon, Final Fantasty: The Spirits Within.
NOTE!
While the flyers/posters say the marathon starts on the 7th, it's actually the 6th. Friday afternoon/evening. J can't count, apparently.
-Movie marathon? Where are you guys doing this?
The marathon is on-line only. There's no way we could get permission to show all these flicks, so if you want to actually watch along, you have to supply them yourself. We're just making fun of them, not showing.
